Marrakech – Morocco has accumulated experience and know-how in hosting and securing major sporting events, from which Portugal can benefit, Manuel Augusto Magina Da Silva, Chief Superintendent and Commissioner General of the Portuguese Police, said on Thursday in Marrakech.
‘Morocco, Portugal and Spain, host countries of the 2030 Football World Cup, are working to share their best practices. In this regard, we can count on Morocco’s experience,’ he told MAP on the sidelines of the international workshop on the safety and security of major events, organized by Interpol through the Stadia project in coordination with the DGSN.
The workshop provides an opportunity to exchange best practices and put in place the most effective strategies to deal with the challenges of organizing a global event such as the World Cup, noted Magina Da Silva, also a former Head of the Portuguese police.
According to the Portuguese security official, the Marrakech workshop, held within the framework of the Stadia project, is of pa
rticular importance to ‘prepare and coordinate the projects that we must put together in the future.’
Launched in 2012, the project aims to create a Center of Excellence to help member countries plan and implement the police and security arrangements required when staging major international events.
Drawing on the best practices, successes and lessons learned from member countries that have organized major international events, the Stadia project aims to help future host countries prepare optimally, sharing with them the latest knowledge and skills in the field.
