May Day: Nigeria Governors Celebrate Workers

The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has appreciated workers for their resilience, cooperation and commitment towards the development of the state.

Tambuwal made the appreciation at the commemoration of the 2023 International Workers Day in Sokoto State.

According to him, it becomes necessary to celebrate workers, especially in their efforts to build the economy of the state.

“My dear great workers of Sokoto state, this administration is proud of you and commended you for your support, dedication, encouragement and tolerance to this government.

“It’s been a pleasure working with you throughout my administration.

You have demonstrated your sense of togetherness in shaping the good relationship between you and the government,” he said.

Governor Tambuwal who was represented by the Head of Service in the state, Abubakar Muhammad, noted that the state government renew commitments to ensure more efficiency at work.

He said his administration has taken more steps to turn around the economy of the state between 2015 and 2023.

Governor Tambuwal urged workers in the state to continue to cooperate and support the incoming administration come May 29, for sustainable development of the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC Chairman of Sokoto State Chapter, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu, said a lot has been achieved through a series of meetings with the government concerning members’ welfare in the year under review.

He commended the state government for the development made over the past four years.

Comrade Aliyu congratulated leadership and members of all industrial unions in the state for their support and cooperation during the state delegates conference of NLC that produce him as Chairman.

He assured quality leadership and open door policy throughout his tenure as Chairman and promised to resolve all the lingering challenges.

Meanwhile, Anambra state Governor in southeast Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has reaffirmed his total commitment to the welfare of workers in Anambra State.

The Governor affirmed the commitment on the occasion of the Workers’ Day celebration in Awka, the state capital.

Prof. Soludo maintained that his administration will continue to partner with the workers towards building a better Anambra State.

The Governor who was addressing members of the organized labour union, thanked Anambra State workers for their support and promised to remain committed to their well-being.

He noted that anything his administration cannot do for Anambra workers must not be financially feasible and assured to gradually and systematically clears the old arrears of gratuity being owed to Anambra workers. According to Soludo, “My government remains focused and it requires reciprocity. Give value to the state and the state will give you value.”

He encouraged the workers to work with his government to make Anambra State liveable and prosperous and said his government is He just said that is targeting to produce a 21st-century workforce by providing steady power, high-speed internet, technology and other enabling environments. Soludo promised to provide free Wi-Fi networks to all workers in the secretariat.

Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor and his Trade Union Congress of Nigeria counterpart, Comrade Chris Ogbonna in their addresses commended Governor Soludo for his tireless efforts towards making Anambra peaceful and progressive.

They said no nation can develop beyond the capacity of its workforce and presented some of the challenges faced by the workers

The Theme of the 2023 Workers’ Day is “Workers’ Rights and Socio-economic Justice.”
