Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate, has said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling NPP is not corrupt.

‘Dr Bawumia is not corrupt and will not be corrupted…he has never been investigated for corruption…you have given an honourable man to continue the reign of Government,’ Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh added.

Dr Opoku Prempeh at the 2024 manifesto launch of the party in Takoradi said the government had made significant strides in improving the education sector over the years.

The implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS), and the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) policies had made these educational opportunities freely accessible to all students, he said.

He said, ‘these policies have helped increased enrollment rates and reduced financial barriers for many families.’

The Ministry of Education had indicated that following the implementation of Free SHS, senior secondary education enrollment had increased from 800,000 in 201
6 to 1.4 million currently.

‘Also, prior to the implementation of Free SHS, the data suggested a gender imbalance in admission, but now, more girls have gained admission and there is gender parity, as indicated by the Ministry of Education,’ he said.

Dr Prempeh also mentioned the high pass rate among SHS students in WASSCE, and said by prioritising education, Ghana had been able to address challenges such as teacher shortages, inadequate resources, and low retention rates,’ he added.

He said furthermore, efforts had been made to promote technical and vocational education to equip students with practical skills for the workforce.

‘Initiatives like the National Apprenticeship Programme have provided opportunities for hands-on training in various trades.’

‘These policies have helped increase enrollment rates and reduced financial barriers for many families’.

Dr Prempeh pledged his resolved to serve the party and the people of Ghana come January 2025, ‘I am committed to serving Dr Bawumia loyally.’
