2025 BECE Commences Smoothly in Northern Region

Accra: The 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has commenced smoothly across all centres in the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Northern Region. The examination, which began on Wednesday, June 11, is expected to end on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, a press statement signed by the Northern Regional Director of Education, Mr Alhassan Alidu Jnr, indicated that 35,893 candidates from 769 schools across all 16 MMDAs in the region were participating in the examination. Of these schools, 611 are public, while 158 are private. A total of 32,592 candidates are enrolled in public schools, with 17,151 males and 15,441 females. Private schools have registered 3,301 candidates, comprising 1,496 males and 1,805 females.

The region has set up 128 examination centres, with a team of 131 supervisors, 121 assistant supervisors, and 1,262 invigilators overseeing the process. The statement from Mr Alhassan Alidu Jnr urged all candidates to approach the exams with confidence, honesty, and discipline. It emphasized that true success is achieved through hard work and integrity and warned against any form of examination malpractice, as severe consequences could jeopardize academic futures.

The statement also commended parents and guardians for their support throughout the academic journey of the candidates. It acknowledged the significant role teachers and school heads play in shaping both the academic abilities and moral values of students. To further encourage candidates and ensure strict compliance with examination guidelines, the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John, and Mr Alhassan Alidu Jnr, along with other dignitaries, are scheduled to visit selected examination centres across the region.

Meanwhile, a visit by the GNA to some centres in the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipality confirmed that candidates and examination officials were fully prepared to begin the examination.
