Kadjebi: Seven pregnant girls and six nursing mothers are among the candidates participating in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region. This information was revealed by Madam Emma Asilevi, the Kadjebi District Girl-child Education Officer, during an interview.
According to Ghana News Agency, a visit to the six examination centers in the district confirmed the situation. At the KASEC centers ‘A’ and ‘B’, there is one pregnant girl and five nursing mothers taking the examination. Meanwhile, the DOPASS centers ‘A’ and ‘B’ have five pregnant girls and one nursing mother. Additionally, the Dodo-Amanfrom centers ‘A’ and ‘B’ registered one pregnant girl.
Madam Asilevi emphasized the importance of students focusing on their studies and avoiding premarital sex. This year’s numbers show an increase compared to the 2024 BECE, where the district had two pregnant girls and five nursing mothers, and a significant decrease from 2023, which saw nine pregnancies and 16 nursing mothers.
A total of 1,457 candidates, comprising 765 males and 702 females, are expected to write the examination in the district. During the Ghana News Agency’s tour of the examination centers, they were caught off guard by heavy rain lasting an hour.
