President of CBCN Urges Nigerians to Hold on to Hope Amidst Challenges

Abuja: In his 2026 Easter message, Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), called upon Nigerians to hold fast to hope and faith in the face of ongoing national challenges. Addressing the nation, he emphasized the significance of the Easter celebration as a time of renewal and the triumph of hope over despair. According to African Press Organization, Rev. Ndagoso acknowledged the difficult circumstances faced by many Nigerians due to persistent insurgency, kidnappings, and armed banditry. He attributed these issues to years of poor leadership characterized by selfishness and lack of commitment to the common welfare. In his message, he drew parallels between the journey from Good Friday to the resurrection of Christ and the current struggles of the Nigerian people, expressing a fervent prayer for the alleviation of their burdens. The archbishop highlighted the importance of hope and prayer, urging that the nation's current hardships be united with th e passion of Jesus to bring about renewal and relief. He reminded Nigerians of the power of the Resurrection, which assures that suffering is temporary and that joy will come in due time. Rev. Ndagoso also addressed the electorate and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), emphasizing the critical role of informed and active citizenship as the 2027 General Elections approach. He encouraged eligible voters to participate in the electoral process and urged INEC to ensure that every vote counts, promoting transparency and justice. In conclusion, Rev. Ndagoso reassured Nigerians that the challenges they face cannot overshadow the promise of the Resurrection. He emphasized that the dawn of a new beginning is imminent and encouraged citizens to remain steadfast in hope. The archbishop conveyed his Easter blessings, wishing for peace and prosperity for Nigeria.
