Douala: Barrister Alice Nkom failed to show up for her expected hearing at the Judicial Department of the National Gendarmerie today. The hearing in the military-style tribunal coincided with her 80th birthday which she chose to celebrate, disregarding an umpteenth summons from the judicial body.
According to Cameroon News Agency, Barrister Nkom expressed her sentiments to the press, stating, “This is a special day for me. I never imagined I would live till 80. But I will respond to their summons. To all their summons.” She made these remarks in her office, where she was surrounded by well-wishers honoring her milestone birthday.
The recent summons is part of a succession of orders from the Wouri SDO, following her actions of breaking seals at the office of her organization. The organization, REDHAC, was suspended by the Minister of Territorial Administration due to allegations of funding terrorism.
Barrister Alice Nkom has scheduled her appearance at the Judicial Department of the National Gendarmerie for January 20, 2025.
