Sefwi Bekwai: Nana Yaw Donkor II, the newly installed Chief of Sefwi Bekwai-Adobewura in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, has donated more than 20 mathematical sets to the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) candidates at Adobewura Methodist Junior High School (JHS).
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Agyenim Boateng, who presented the items on behalf of Nana Donkor II, stated that the gesture was the Chief’s personal contribution towards enhancing education in the Adobewura community. He emphasized the significance of education in driving the socio-economic development of the community and its role in bridging the gap between the rich and the poor, which motivated the Chief to support the candidates.
Nana Boateng encouraged the students to take their examinations seriously, reminding them that this marks the beginning of their academic journey and future success. He advised them to overcome fear and anxiety and trust in their abilities to apply the knowledge imparted by their dedicated teachers.
Nana Yaw Donkor II considers education a priority and plans to establish an educational fund in the community to assist brilliant and needy students. The fund aims to support the top three students with GHC1,000 each to help them prepare for Senior High School (SHS), while the overall best student will receive a laptop computer to aid their education at the SHS level.
“The government has done its part by introducing the Free Senior High School programme, and the privileged in the community must contribute in small ways to support the underprivileged in climbing the academic ladder, which is why he is establishing this fund,” Nana Boateng added.
Mr. Bismark Owusu Asare, the Headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to the Chief for the generous gesture and assured that the school authorities would ensure the mathematical sets are used effectively.
