Addis Ababa: Irrigation and Lowlands Minister, Abraham Belay discussed with Sara Mbago-Bhunu, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Regional Director for East and Southern Africa Division, Country Director, Mawira Chitima and Heifer Country Director Tewodros Yeshiwork about ways of bolstering support today.

The discussion focused on enhancing multilateral relations and bolstering support for the initiatives in line with Ethiopia’s commitment to advancing the Homegrown Economic Reform program and unlocking economic growth potential, according to the Ministry.

“Our Ministry remains committed to connecting end users of our irrigation infrastructure and lowlands development projects to active markets through various programs and climate-resilient irrigation initiatives,” Minister Abraham pointed out during the occasion.

Moreover, he noted that by building on the success of Lowlands-Livelihood-Resilience-Project (LLRP I) Ethiopia will further its engagement in LLRP II and focus on implementing
innovative and impactful projects.

Meanwhile, the Sustainable Small-Scale Irrigation (SSI) project will be spearheaded by the private sector, with continued collaboration from both IFAD and Heifer.

IFAD will support and take an important role in Ministry’s anticipated National Irrigation Conference which is set to take place in November 2024, it was learned.
