The Women’s Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS) has donated sanitation improvement items to the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi.

The items included several waste bins, tissue papers, diapers, sanitary pads, mobs, buckets, brushes, and detergents. They cleaned and scrubbed the special male and female wards of the hospital too.

They also donated assorted food items to the inmates at the Asuofia Prisons in Kumasi.

According to Hajia Mariam Suleiman Nketia, the General Secretary of the IMS, the donation formed part of their social responsibility in giving back to society, as the Wing held its 26th Annual General Conference from Thursday, September 19 to 22, 2024 at Kropo, the headquarters of the IMS in the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

The four-day conference was on the theme ‘towards peaceful elections: the role of a Muslim Woman’. Hajia Nketiah said cleanliness remained one of the key pillars of Islam, hence the need to help improve personal hygiene and environmental cleanlin
ess at all times.

Mr Vincent Arkornor Abubakar, the Head of Environmental Unit at the Hospital thanked the IMS for the gesture and appealed for more support.

He said the Hospital needed more of such assistance to lessen the burden of some patients, saying ‘some of the patients cannot afford to buy diapers to keep themselves and pay their hospital bills too’.

The conference also raised awareness for Muslim women to realize their role, responsibilities, and potential towards preserving the prevailing peace of the nation, before, during and after the December 7, polls.

Other lined-up activities for the conference included sports, quiz, ‘Daa’wa, and Tahajjud,’ health talks, employable skills training in fresh yoghurt preparation, pastries, soap, and detergent as well as vocational competition.
