Abuja: The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, recently received Prof. Wautabouna Ouattara, the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the West Africa region, during a courtesy visit. The meeting took place on Friday, 8 August 2025.

According to African Press Organization, President Touray welcomed Prof. Ouattara’s appointment and expressed support from the West African organization for his mandate’s success. He emphasized the importance of the IMF’s involvement in developing a West African regional market and implementing programs that enhance regional stability and integration.

Prof. Ouattara acknowledged ECOWAS’s role in conflict resolution and economic integration within the region. He committed to strengthening collaboration with ECOWAS and the 14 countries under his jurisdiction to tackle issues such as public debt, budget deficits, and economic growth.
