The Buea referral hospital project abandoned now for more than half a decade has become the habitat for urban animals.
Work that commenced in 2017, state authorities said was suspended in 2018 due to security threats by armed separatists. Since then, many have expressed worries about when construction will resume.
Barrister Mayor David Mafani Namange, in an address to the Minister of Public Health at the launch of the Universal Health voucher for the North West and South West regions on August 7 in Buea was not indifferent.
Buea being a haven, the Mayor said was home to many more people needing more medical attention. And so the need for the referral hospital is completed to serve this need.
According to him, security had steadily improved around the new layout area hosting the infrastructure. Indicating that the government should consider continuing the project.
A police checkpoint has been functional on the stretch leading through the hospital site, immediately after the Buea Central Market in Bitwingi
locals confirmed.
Minister Manaouda Malachie in response told listeners at his address that, work was going to begin soon. The MINSANTE boss said the Buea and Bamenda Referral Hospital Projects will be resumed before long. He however didn’t state any date to go with.
