In a decisive ruling on September 5, 2024, the high court of Kaele in the Far North Region confirmed Hon Cabral Libii as the President of the National Reconciliation Party (PCRN), ending a protracted leadership dispute. The court dismissed the challenge brought by one of the party’s founding fathers, Mr. Robert Kona, who had sought to invalidate Libii’s presidency by questioning the legitimacy of the 2019 convention that elevated Libii to the role.
The verdict, delivered by the Chief Clerk of the court, affirmed that Kona’s claims were unfounded. This ruling solidifies Libii’s position as the party president, ending a significant internal power struggle within the opposition party.
Cabral Libii, who led the PCRN in the 2018 presidential elections, was officially appointed as the party’s president on May 11, 2019, during the contentious convention.
Kona’s legal challenge aimed to overturn the results of the 2019 convention to reclaim leadership, but the court’s recent decision has put an end to the legal b
attle, reaffirming Libii’s leadership of the PCRN.
