Addis Ababa: Ethiopia’s entry into the BRICS is great evidence of the growing role of the country on the international arena, Russia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin said.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, Ambassador Terekhin said Ethiopia’s membership to the BRICS serves as a great inspiration and it is a great evidence of the country’s growing role on the international arena.

He recalled that Ethiopia is among the few countries who managed to be the founding member of the main international organizations including the League of Nations, United Nations and African Union among others.

Now, managing to become one of the first member countries of BRICS itself speaks much about the growing role of Ethiopia at the global stage, he underscored.

Noting that Ethiopia has numerous natural and human resources, he said the role of Ethiopia in South-South cooperation is also growing.

Regarding the Ethio-Russian relations at the global stage, Ambassador Terekhin said Ethio-Russian relation is a good exampl
e of a relationship between the two countries and two peoples based on mutual respect and mutual trust.

The BRICS members enjoy open and trusted relations based on the principle of sovereign equality, respect for each other’s choice of a development path, the Ambassador affirmed.

BRICS members have also developed a special culture of dialogue between the countries that represent different civilizations, religions and regions, he pointed out.

BRICS has already surpassed the G-7 in terms of purchasing power parity as the group accounts for 35.6 percent of the global GDP, while the G-7 accounts for 30.3 percent, the Ambassador further stated.

The collective share of BRICS member states in the global economy is 58.9 trillion USD.

BRICS accounts for 45 percent of the world’s population, over 40 percent of oil production and about a quarter of the world’s exports of goods, it was learned.
