President Boakai Departs Liberia to Attend West Africa Economic Summit in Nigeria

Abuja: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., departed Liberia earlier today to participate in the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES), scheduled to take place from June 20-21, 2025, in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to African Press Organization, the West Africa Economic Summit is a significant event that brings together Heads of State, senior government officials, private sector leaders, and development partners from across the region. The summit aims to explore strategies for accelerating trade, investment, and regional integration, serving as a key platform for shaping policies and partnerships that promote sustainable economic growth, job creation, and industrial development across West Africa.

President Boakai is scheduled to address the WAES Forum, where he will present Liberia’s vision for economic transformation. He will outline investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, tourism, and digital innovation. This address is anticipated to highlight Liberia’s commitment to regional economic development and collaboration.

Accompanying President Boakai is a delegation that includes key figures such as Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning; and Hon. Magdalene Dagoseh, Minister of Commerce. The delegation also comprises other ministers and advisors who are expected to contribute to discussions and negotiations at the summit.

While President Boakai attends the summit, governance in Liberia will continue under the leadership of the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Oswald Tweh. He will chair the Cabinet and maintain consultation with the President via telephone to ensure continued oversight and coordination of national governance.

The President and his delegation are expected to return to Liberia on Monday, June 23, 2025, following the conclusion of the summit.
