Uasin Gishu County Elevates Fire and Rescue Section to Directorate

Uasin gishu: Uasin Gishu County administration has taken a significant step as part of its strategic initiatives aimed at addressing emerging needs, streamline operations, and enhancing services. As part of this initiative, the Fire and Rescue Section, previously under the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works, has now been elevated to a full directorate, allowing for more dedicated focus on its operations.

According to Kenya News Agency, Chief Officer for Roads, Geoffrey Tanui, presided over a ceremony to welcome Cosmas Kerich, the newly appointed Director of the Fire and Rescue Directorate. Kerich previously served as Director of Enforcement, a role now filled by Moses Kangogo. The Chief Officer stated that the creation of the new directorate will not only provide fresh leadership and improved resource mobilization for the unit but will also significantly enhance overall service delivery.

This development aligns with Governor Bii’s Nguzo Kumi agenda, specifically Pillar Six, which focuses on infrastructure development. During an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation works at the fire station, Tanui revealed that the Bii administration has allocated funds in the 2025/26 budget for the purchase of a new fire engine, the upgrading of the Eldoret City Fire Station, the construction of new fire stations in Moi’s Bridge and Ziwa, and the equipping of the Burnt Forest Fire Station.

‘I urge you to work together as a team and give your new director full support,’ Tanui said. Also present at the ceremony were Director of Transport and Mechanical Services, Lazarus Sile, who had been serving as Acting Director of the Fire and Rescue Section, Chief Fire Officer David Sitati, and the entire fire brigade team.
