Stakeholders Gather in Vihiga County for National Building Code Forum

Vihiga: The National Construction Authority (NCA), in collaboration with key industry stakeholders, has initiated a three-day sensitisation and civic education forum in Vihiga County. The initiative is designed to promote awareness and enhance compliance with the updated National Building Code.

According to Kenya News Agency, the forum has successfully brought together a wide range of stakeholders from the construction sector, including architects, engineers, contractors, developers, county officials, and members of the public. Key discussions during the event revolved around understanding the revised National Building Code and its implications, enhancing compliance and enforcement mechanisms, promoting sustainable, safe, and affordable construction practices, and strengthening collaboration between the national and county governments.

Speaking at the forum, the area Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo, who represented the County Governor, emphasized the county government’s commitment to partnering with the
national government in implementing the code. ‘We will walk together in the realisation of the code. Beyond these three-day engagements, we will have tailor-made sessions with the NCA to benefit from technical assistance and cooperation,’ the Deputy Governor stated.

The event highlighted the importance of public awareness, professional ethics, and strict adherence to standards as crucial elements in transforming Kenya’s built environment. This sensitisation forum is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at ensuring safer buildings, promoting orderly urban development, and aligning construction practices with global best standards. The NCA plans to roll out similar forums across all 47 counties.
