Nyahururu: Mwendaandu Secondary School emerged victorious in the boy’s football category, securing their spot to represent Nyandarua County at the regional level after a decisive 2-0 win against Oljoorok Secondary. The intense match, held at Nyahururu Stadium, saw Oljoorok take the runner-up position in the county-level competition.
According to Kenya News Agency, the semifinals saw Mwendaandu Secondary defeating Kahuho Secondary with a 2-0 scoreline, while Oljoorok overcame Ngorika Secondary 3-0, setting the stage for their final face-off. In the battle for third place in boy’s football, Kahuho Boys claimed victory over Ngorika Secondary 4-3 via penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In the girl’s football category, Ruiru Girls claimed first place by defeating Ngorika Secondary 2-0 in the final, with Ngorika taking the second position. The semifinals saw Ngorika overcoming Mwendaandu Secondary 2-0, while Ruiru dominated Ndaragwa Girls with a 6-0 victory. Mwendaandu Secondary secured third place in girl’s football by beating Ndaragwa Girls 2-0, leaving Ndaragwa in fourth place.
In boy’s volleyball, Kambaa Secondary emerged victorious against Muruaki Boys, winning 3-0 in sets, while Karima Girls triumphed over Ngaindeithi Secondary with a similar 3-0 victory in girl’s volleyball. Consequently, Kambaa Secondary and Karima Secondary will represent Nyandarua County in volleyball at the regional tournament.
Mr. Joseph Kamathi, Secretary of the Nyandarua Secondary Schools Sports Association, explained that participants at the county level were drawn from three zonal levels within Nyandarua County. Zone A includes Nyandarua South, Kipipiri, and Kinangop Sub counties; Zone B comprises Mirangine, Nyandarua Central, and Wanjohi Sub counties; while Zone C consists of Nyandarua North, Nyandarua West, Aberdare, and Gathanji Sub Counties.
Mr. Kamathi also noted that winners in each category proceeding to the regional level will compete against winners from other counties in the Central Region. He highlighted that defending champions in each category are allowed to present two teams to form a total of six teams. For instance, Kiambu County, as the defending champion in football, will present two teams at the regional level.
The regional ball games are scheduled to take place on July 11th and 12th, bringing together winners from Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, and Muranga Counties at Nyahururu Stadium.
