Amrahia: The Amrahia Community School has inaugurated a new Water Supply Station to ensure the provision of safe and clean water for its students and staff. This development aims to promote hygiene, prevent waterborne diseases, and improve the overall teaching and learning environment at the school.
According to Ghana News Agency, the facility marks a significant step in the school’s efforts to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal Six, which focuses on clean water and sanitation for all. The initiative aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation by 2030, including universal access to safe and affordable drinking water.
The school, managed by International Needs Ghana, a non-governmental organization, is committed to providing quality education to children in deprived communities through infrastructure and learning resources. At the commissioning event, Mr. Cromwell Awadey, the Executive Director of International Needs Ghana, highlighted that the facility assures quality water supply and reduces operational costs. He noted the previous reliance on an unreliable and costly water supply system which had broken down.
Mr. Awadey expressed gratitude to the Global Executive MBA (GEMBA 2024) for supporting the school and emphasized the school’s dedication to maintaining the new system. He stated, “We have zero tolerance for child abuse and negligent treatment, and it is always our responsibility to ensure that these children have safe and potable water.”
The water project was initiated and funded by the 2024 Class of GEMBA of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), in partnership with International Needs Ghana. Prof. Gordon Adomdza, Director of CEIBS Africa, underscored the importance of access to safe water for human health and well-being. He cited a UNICEF report highlighting that while access to water in Ghana has improved, challenges remain, with some relying on unsafe sources.
Prof. Adomdza emphasized the project’s alignment with CEIBS’s vision of inclusive progress and sustainable growth. Mr. Zakaria Boughalem, a GEMBA 2024 member, remarked on the project’s adherence to standards of durability and sustainability, reflecting their commitment to corporate social responsibility.
The Amrahia Community School, established in 1993, currently serves 330 children, and the new water supply station is expected to significantly enhance their educational experience.
