Akatsi: A Toyota Venza private vehicle allegedly carrying parcels of marijuana was impounded after being involved in an accident at Monome bypass Junction in Akatsi, Volta Region. The incident occurred when the black-coloured vehicle, bearing two different registration numbers, reportedly somersaulted and landed in a nearby bush after being pursued by security officers.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Daniel Dagbah, the Municipal Chief Executive of Akatsi South, along with the police, discovered large quantities of Indian Hemp inside the vehicle following a search. Mr. Dagbah, who also chairs the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) of Akatsi South, stated that he was alerted to the accident around 1840 hours on Saturday and promptly arrived at the scene with his security detail to manage the situation.
A thorough examination of the vehicle revealed compressed leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. The car was then towed to the Akatsi Police Station for further inspection. The retrieved consignments included 378 small-size, 43 flat-type, and 87 big-size pieces, all packed in sacks.
The driver of the vehicle remains at large, and the Akatsi Police are actively working to locate him. Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Police Command has taken custody of the seized consignments for further investigation.
