Municipal Chief Imam Calls for Decisive Action Against Illegal Mining Activities

Tarkwa: Alhaji Yushau Ahmed Dodo, the Municipal Chief Imam for Tarkwa Nsuaem, has urged the government to undertake firm and determined actions to halt illegal mining activities. The Imam emphasized the severe pollution inflicted on the Bonsa River, a critical water source for thousands of residents in Tarkwa Nsuaem and its surroundings, by illegal miners who appear indifferent to the long-term consequences for the nation.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Municipal Chief Imam stressed the urgency of addressing the illegal mining issue, which has severely impacted the country’s forest reserves. He called for robust leadership and urged the government to take the necessary decisive measures. The Imam made these remarks during an interview in Tarkwa, coinciding with the Eid-ul-Adha festival celebrations.

The Imam highlighted the significance of Eid-ul-Adha, which commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God’s command. He explained that Muslims observe this event by sacrificing animals, such as sheep and cows, and sharing the meat with family, friends, and those in need.

Alhaji Dodo also took the opportunity to offer prayers for President John Dramani Mahama and his ministers, seeking divine guidance and wisdom for their leadership. In related remarks, Mr. Ebenezer Cobbinah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa Nsuaem, encouraged Muslims to foster love, peace, and unity, while urging the youth to uphold high moral standards.
