Accra: The SSNIT Flats Pastoral District of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, has organised a farewell service for Catechist Emmanuel Akorli, one of the longest-serving catechists in the district. Catechist Akorli, who served the Church for 24 years, began his work at the Adaklu Dzakpo Congregation in February 1998 and continued until his retirement in 2022.
According to Ghana News Agency, a citation presented to him highlighted his leadership journey, which began when he took over the congregation after the previous catechist left to join another church. Despite residing in Abutia, his dedication was evident through his constant presence in the congregation. The citation noted that although he did not receive any financial allowance or incentive, his commitment was unwavering and motivated him to give his best.
Reverend Dr. Francis Senyo Kuvor, the SSNIT Flats District Pastor, delivered a sermon during the ceremony, encouraging Christians to be open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. He emphasized the importance of allowing the Holy Spirit to influence one’s life, as it can lead to the exhibition of Christlike values. The sermon, themed ‘Openness to the Spirit,’ was based on passages from Acts, Romans, and John.
Rev. Dr. Kuvor also praised Catechist Akorli for his selfless service to the Church and urged others to follow his example. He encouraged Akorli to continue offering his expertise to the Church even in retirement. In response, Catechist Akorli expressed his gratitude for the recognition and the farewell gesture by the district. He was honored with cash donations from the district and the Adaklu Dzakpo Congregation, along with a citation.
