Sunyani: Mr. Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, has called upon commercial drivers and the business community to collaborate as the Assembly initiates the decongestion of the Sunyani Central Business District (CBD) enclave.
According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise, set to commence next week, aims to alleviate the increasing vehicular and pedestrian traffic while restoring order and improving accessibility and public safety within the CBD. Mr. Agyei, during a press conference in Sunyani, emphasized that the decongestion is part of the Assembly’s broader strategy.
Mr. Agyei stated that traders occupying pedestrian walkways and unauthorized locations, including areas around the Ghana Cocoa Board building, would be relocated. He also mentioned that commercial drivers would be restricted from loading passengers at unapproved locations.
Shop and store owners have been advised to load and offload goods between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. to minimize congestion and facilitate traffic flow. Mr. Agyei assured that the objective is not to disrupt livelihoods but to establish a cleaner, more efficient, and accessible trading environment in the regional capital.
He highlighted that the Assembly has engaged traders, market women, and other key stakeholders within the CBD to promote cooperation for a conducive business environment. Additionally, Mr. Agyei noted that public sensitization efforts have been strengthened, and the Assembly is prepared to enforce byelaws to maintain cleanliness in the city.
