Luanda: Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), is set to make an impactful appearance at this year’s Angola Oil and Gas (AOG) conference, slated for September 3-4 in Luanda. Ibrahim’s participation underscores his ongoing support for advancing oil and gas projects within Angola, coinciding with the upcoming launch of the Africa Energy Bank (AEB). This financial institution, developed in partnership with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), is designed to enhance financing accessibility for oil and gas endeavors across Africa.
According to African Press Organization, the Africa Energy Bank is poised to begin operations in June 2025, following the completion of essential arrangements in April 2025. The bank’s headquarters will be located in Abuja, Nigeria, with an initial capitalization of $5 billion. This capital is bolstered by an $83 million investment from each APPO member state. As of March 2025, Angola, Nigeria, and Ghana had made their respective contributions, highlighting the backing from some of Africa’s leading oil and gas producers. During AOG 2025, Ibrahim is expected to elaborate on the institution’s role in markets like Angola and how the enhanced financing framework can bolster regional fuel security.
AOG stands as Angola’s premier oil and gas event, organized with comprehensive support from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency, the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute, national oil company Sonangol, and the African Energy Chamber. The conference serves as a pivotal platform for deal-making and the advancement of Angola’s oil and gas sector.
