Accra: L/Cpl Idun-Essel’s achievement marks a significant milestone in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), underscoring the growing participation of women in military training and leadership. Born on 2 November 2002, she attended Aburaman Senior High School in Abura Dunkwa and enlisted into the Armour Recruit Training School in Sunyani on 8 August 2022.

According to Ghana News Agency, she graduated on 10 February 2023 as Second Runner-Up and Overall Best in Weapons. In an interview with the Defence Press Corps, L/Cpl Idun-Essel expressed her joy at being the first female recipient of this award and shared her hope that it would motivate others to achieve more.

The Officer Commanding, PTS, Captain J.A. Issahaku, praised her for the achievement and lauded the Ghana Armed Forces for fostering an inclusive environment that empowers female soldiers.
