Kpordoave: Residents of Kpordoave in the Ketu South Municipality have been left alarmed after they discovered that multiple graves at the community cemetery have been desecrated by unknown individuals. The incident, which is believed to have occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 30, 2025, resulted in the dishonouring of at least 15 graves with several other burial sites being found to have been allegedly tampered with.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. David Kwabla Kugbey, the Assembly Member, stated that this was not the first time such an act had occurred in the area. “This may be the eighth time we are experiencing this kind of incident,” he said. “After receiving a report that some graves had been disturbed, I personally visited the cemetery to verify. I can confirm that no fewer than 15 graves had been exhumed, and others were partially damaged.”
Mr. Kugbey indicated that while a formal complaint was lodged with the Ghana Police Service, local authorities in the enclave have also initiated their preliminary investigations to uncover those responsible. Meanwhile, community members are urging law enforcement agencies and municipal authorities to intervene swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In the aftermath of the discovery, several affected families have spoken out, expressing their anguish and demanding immediate intervention. “We are devastated,” one grieving relative said. “Our loved ones deserve to rest in peace. The authorities must act swiftly on this issue.”
The Ghana News Agency observed that some of the alleged desecrated graves were covered with sand following a heavy rain in the early hours of June 02, this year, and had sparked doubt amongst residents on whether some parts of their deceased relatives were still intact or not. However, no human parts were seen scattered at the cemetery.
The motive behind repeated exhumations in the area remains unknown, deepening concerns among residents about safety and respect for the dead.
