Savannah Region Peace Council Inaugurated to Address Key Conflict Issues

Damongo: The National Peace Council has officially reconstituted and inaugurated the Savannah Region Peace Council, tasked with preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts to build lasting peace in the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the 13-member Council is chaired by Reverend Father Lazarus Zeledeme Annyereh and includes members from religious and traditional bodies, among other stakeholders. During the inauguration ceremony in Damongo, Mr. Salisu Bi-awuribe, the Savannah Regional Minister, emphasized the importance of promoting peace to foster development in the region.

He highlighted five critical issues that the new Council must urgently address to maintain peace: chieftaincy disputes, land and boundary conflicts, ethnic tensions, political party differences, and land disputes. Numo Blafo Akotia Omaetu III, a member of the National Peace Council, further encouraged Council Members to collaborate with all stakeholders to sustain peace in the region.
