Chairman Wontumi Withdraws Bail Review Application

Accra: Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially filed a notice to discontinue the motion he initiated to review the bail conditions set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). The notice declares the applicant’s decision to wholly discontinue the application against the respondents.

According to Ghana News Agency, the application, originally filed on Friday, May 30, was a challenge to the GH?50 million bail. Chairman Wontumi’s legal team argued that the bail amount was excessive and seemed intended to prevent his release. The application sought a reconsideration of the bail terms, as detailed in the accompanying affidavit.

Meanwhile, information from the Ghana News Agency suggests that Chairman Wontumi is expected to be released today. He is currently under investigation for multiple criminal offences, including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, and money laundering. The criminal investigation is being conducted alongside asset recovery efforts to prevent further dissipation of assets suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Additionally, Mr Antwi Boasiako is involved in a second investigation strand, which is part of a broader international organised crime scheme. His arrest took place on Tuesday, May 27, following a summons issued by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service.
