Fire Destroys Dozens of Houses at Bomso

Kumasi: A devastating fire has ravaged many residential buildings in the densely populated Bomso suburb of Kumasi, leaving dozens of families displaced. The blaze reportedly began in a single-room apartment and quickly spread to other units, fueled by an explosion from an electricity meter.

According to Ghana News Agency, eyewitnesses and victims confirmed that the fire engulfed at least 50 rooms, destroying refrigerators, kitchen utensils, electrical appliances, and personal belongings worth thousands of cedis. The tightly clustered houses in Bomso, characterised by poorly constructed structures with visible cracks and weak foundations, contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Many residents were unable to salvage any possessions due to the intensity of the fire.

Firefighters from the Oforikrom Municipality responded promptly to the emergency call, but the cramped layout of the houses severely restricted access, complicating efforts to control the blaze. The District Fire Commander, DO2 Appiah Anthony, confirmed that his officers faced significant challenges due to the layout of the community.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Oforikrom, Anwal Sadat Ahmed, visited the scene to assess the damage and assured residents that the Assembly would collaborate closely with the fire service to fully investigate the incident. He also pledged immediate relief efforts, promising to work with relevant agencies to provide support and essential supplies to displaced victims.

As investigations continue, authorities urged residents to adhere to fire safety regulations and report any electrical faults promptly to prevent future incidents.
