Akosombo: The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has scheduled a two-day training session for journalists and media practitioners from the Volta and Eastern Regions, focusing on Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) and Progressive Taxation. The event will take place from Monday, May 26 to Tuesday, May 27.
According to Ghana News Agency, the workshop is part of MFWA’s efforts to enhance the competencies of journalists, enabling them to report effectively on the impacts of IFFs. This initiative is a component of MFWA’s project titled ‘Tax for Development: Strengthening Civil Society and Media for Fiscal Justice,’ funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) through OXFAM in Ghana.
The training aims to bolster participants’ abilities to track and assess government policies on reducing illicit financial flows. Journalists will also learn how to investigate and report on IFFs in Ghana thoroughly. Additional topics include discussions on progressive taxation policies and their effect on domestic revenue mobilization in Ghana.
The two-day training, set to take place at the Afrikiko Riverfront Resort in Akosombo, will see participation from journalists across various media platforms, including print, online, and broadcast. Illicit financial flows typically encompass activities such as money laundering, international corporate bribery, tax evasion, trade misinvoicing, and mispricing.
