Sunyani Men Plan to Cut Chop Money as Food Prices Drop

Accra: Some men in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital, have expressed their intentions to reduce the amount of chop money for daily family provisions due to a decline in food item prices.

According to Ghana News Agency, during a visit to the Sunyani Business Central District, traders and market women confirmed that prices of basic food items and other consumables had decreased marginally. They attributed this price decrease to the appreciation of the Ghana cedi against the dollar.

In interviews conducted at the CBD, some men noted that the reduction in food prices would help them better manage family expenses. Mr. Samuel Darko, a television repairer, expressed his satisfaction with the economic improvements, stating he could now reduce the daily chop money for his family and save more.

Lotto agent Mr. Kofi Danso shared that he typically provides between GHC80 and GHC100 daily as chop money but is considering reducing this to between GHC70 and GHC80 due to falling food prices. Justice Owusu, a shop attendant, urged the government to stabilize the cedi further and appealed to women to understand husbands who opt to decrease chop money for the family’s future.

Conversely, Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Asare, a 207 Benz Driver, argued against reducing chop money to maintain family peace. He encouraged women to spend wisely and support their husbands in meeting family needs.

Madam Cynthia Adovi, a cold store operator, confirmed reducing her goods’ prices but advised men against decreasing chop money, warning it could lead to household disputes.
