Police Arrests Man in Adoagyiri Over Unlawful Firearms Possession

Adoagyiri: The Eastern South Regional Police Command has apprehended a man at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspect, identified as Abdul Rauf Salami, who is resident at the Adoagyiri Zongo, was apprehended on the night of Thursday, May 23, 2025, by law enforcement authorities during a heightened police operation designed to enhance security and monitor all entry and exit points within the community, following recent disturbances in the area among youth groups.

According to Ghana News Agency, police sources said several weapons and ammunition, including two pump-action guns, 64 rounds of AA ammunition, a cutlass, a knife, and an ammunition vest, were recovered from the suspect during the operation. Mr. Salami is currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations, and would soon be arraigned before the law court.

In a statement, ASP Foster Owusu of the Public Affairs Unit, emphasized the police’s commitment to restoring and maintaining peace at Adoagyiri, stating that the law enforcement body would take all necessary measures to guarantee public safety and security. ‘We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and security of Adoagyiri,’ the statement declared.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Authorities have also assured the public that further updates would be provided as investigations progressed.
