According to Radio Okapi, the objective of this awareness campaign is to encourage young individuals to recognize their potential to ensure their empowerment, as explained by Grace Kathya Vingi, the first vice-president of the Beni Territory Youth Parliament. She further detailed that this meeting was a continuation of activities from March, a month dedicated to promoting the rights of women and young girls.
Grace Kathya emphasized, “On March 8, the youth parliament organized an event primarily targeting young girls to highlight juvenile female strength, combat misinformation and manipulation, and contribute to the empowerment of young women and girls to fight against negative values.”
The sensitization effort on the previous Monday aimed to sustain the actions initiated for International Women’s Day on March 8. “We are also strengthening the capacity of our young girls concerning active citizenship. It is about showing the youth their rights and duties within their respective communities. We have said that from each entity, a young girl can undertake a self-financing activity to combat certain negative values that may be observed in the community, especially since our area is torn by militia groups and recurring insecurity,” explained the first vice-president of the Beni Youth Parliament.
