Nairobi: Religious leaders have urged residents of Kasipul constituency to observe restraint and uphold tenets of peaceful co-existence as they mourn the death of their departed member of parliament Charles Ongondo Were. Clerics called on political leaders to forge unity among residents as plans to bury the slain area MP were being finalized.
According to Kenya News Agency, the clerics from churches across Kasipul constituency were speaking in Oyugis town during a press conference. They also asked state authorities to expedite investigations into the act and ensure that justice is served. Bishop Fred Ogolla of the Salvation Army Gospel Cannan church emphasized the need for love, brotherhood, and the love of Christ to bring the community together during this period of mourning.
Pastor John Aura of Saint Alfayo Musanda Holy Ghost church of East Africa condemned the perpetrators of the act and called for justice. He urged residents to remain calm and allow agencies time to bring the culprits to book. Similarly, Pastor Hesborn of the SDA church stated that lawlessness and violence cannot be part of their mission, condemning violence in strong terms.
The late Kasipul MP was shot dead in Nairobi last week by gangsters on a motorbike in what police described as a targeted and premeditated murder. Police have since arrested four suspects in connection to the murder.
