14 Students, Teachers Implicated in 10 Million FCFA Embezzlement Affair

Yaounde: At least 9 students and 5 teachers of Matamfen College in Yaounde are about to spend their third night at the Judicial Police, after being implicated in a money theft affair.

According to Cameroon News Agency, both students and teachers are implicated in an embezzlement affair wherein Beyala Lesly Zogo, daughter of Felix Zogo, the Secretary General at the Ministry of Communication, allegedly stole 10 million FCFA from her father. Beyala Lesly Zogo, who is also a student at Matamfen College, reportedly used part of the money to host parties and gifted phones and several items to her classmates, including teachers. A source close to the matter mentioned that when questioned about the money, she claimed it was given to her by her boyfriend.

The source, who remains unnamed for security reasons, further revealed that an alarm was raised when Felix Zogo noticed the disappearance of the money. Once the school administration was informed, some of the students refunded the money and gifts, though this claim could not be independently verified by Cameroon News Agency.

Despite returning the gifts, all individuals who participated in the parties and accepted gifts were arrested. Since Monday, they have been held at the Yaounde Judicial Police in their school uniforms and with their bags. The source added that they were taken to the Mfoudi Court of First Instance on Tuesday, but no concrete decisions were made, and they were returned to the cell.

It is also reported that although these students and teachers are being held, Beyala Lesly Zogo, who allegedly stole the money, is currently missing.
