Sokoto: In northern Nigeria, many women who never had the opportunity to complete their education are now seizing the chance to return to the classroom. In Sokoto, a town in the country’s northwest, women like Halimatu Hassan are reclaiming their educational opportunities. Halimatu had to drop out of school as a teenager after getting married, but she has now resumed her studies alongside other women in similar situations.
According to Deutsche Welle, the Women’s Centre for Continuing Education in Sokoto is playing a crucial role in this educational revival by enrolling students and offering courses at an affordable rate of just 5,000 Naira, which is approximately $3.50 per term. This initiative is enabling countless women to pursue the education they missed out on earlier in life.
