US Monastir, Petro de Luanda and Kriol Star Advance to the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL) Playoffs in South Africa

Cape Town: Anderson Correia scored 16 points and secured five rebounds to help Kriol Star (Cape Verde) defeat the defending champion Petro de Luanda (Angola) 71-69 in an overtime thriller. This victory ensured Kriol Star’s advancement to the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL) Playoffs, which will be held at SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa from June 6 to 14. Ivan Almeida also made significant contributions with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. Notably, NBA Academy Africa prospect Lewis Uvwo played for 40 minutes, finishing with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks. Kriol Star managed to outrebound Petro 52-43 but also recorded 28 turnovers.

According to African Press Organization, Glofate Buiamba led Petro with 16 points, while Aboubacar Gakou added 15 points and seven rebounds. Despite the loss, both teams qualified for the BAL Playoffs in Pretoria, with Petro finishing second and Kriol Star securing third place in the Sahara Conference, each holding a record of three wins and three losses.

In another matchup, US Monastir (Tunisia) secured a 77-68 victory over ASC Ville de Dakar (Senegal), led by Osiris Eldridge’s 22 points and four assists. Former NBA Academy Africa prospect Babacar Sane also contributed with 13 points and 12 rebounds. This win granted Monastir the top position in the Sahara Conference and automatic qualification to the playoffs, as they finished with a 4-2 record. Monastir achieved a shooting percentage of 43 from the floor and outrebounded Dakar 45-39. For Dakar, Will Perry led the charge with 20 points and seven assists, while Makhtar Gueye added 18 points as the host team wrapped up their 2025 BAL campaign.
