Addis Ababa: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) provided vehicles and material support valued at 20.6 million Birr to the North Wollo Zone Health Department of the Amhara region today.
North Wollo Zone Health Department Head, Sister Feleku Mekonen on the occasion said assets obtained from supporting organizations are being matched with government resources to provide accelerated health services to the community.
‘The support equips health institutions with vehicles and material resources to provide swift services for the people,’ she said.
UNICEF has supported three Land Cruiser cars and 10 motorcycles, laptops, tablets and various medicines, she stated.
The support that included vehicles is particularly critical to deploy experts to rural areas and respond to spreading infectious diseases like malaria, she explained.
The provided vehicles will create a favorable environment for the transportation of medicines and medical equipment.
UNICEF Representative in Amhara region, Sayfedin Nimer stated
that the support UNICEF provided to the zone is valued at 20.6 million Birr.
‘The support is to expand access to the health services being provided to the community,’ he said.
Five hospitals, 67 health centers, and 310 health posts are providing services to the public in North Wollo Zone, it was learned.
