Turkana County Allocated Over 1,000 Slots in Climateworx Program

Turkana: Turkana County has been allocated 1,028 slots for Climateworx workers, a program that mirrors the kazi mtaani initiative. A total of 25,924 applicants from the county vied for these positions. Supervisors under this program will earn Sh580 daily, while junior workers are set to receive Sh500 for their involvement in menial jobs.

According to Kenya News Agency, County Commissioner Julius Kavita, who also chairs the county implementation committee, announced during a meeting that 35 supervisor slots have been allocated to Turkana County. The committee meeting focused on ensuring a transparent recruitment and selection process for the Climateworx program, with Kavita detailing the number of applicants and the distribution of slots across the six constituencies.

The recruitment will be conducted at the sub-county level. Each Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) is responsible for compiling a list of selected workers per ward and identifying priority activities for informal settlements within their jurisdictions. In Turkana Central, 11,424 applicants are competing for 300 slots. Turkana North has 3,294 candidates for 170 slots, while Turkana East has 2,399 applicants for 90 available slots. Turkana South sees 2,919 applicants vying for 150 slots, Turkana West has 2,452 applicants for 198 slots, and Loima has 3,435 applicants for 120 slots.

The committee also agreed on the distribution of supervisor roles, which will depend on the number of wards per constituency and worker volume. DCCs will nominate supervisors from each ward. Supervisor allocations include eight slots for Turkana Central, six for Turkana North, three for Turkana East, six for Turkana South, eight for Turkana West, and four for the Loima sub-county.
