Tourism Society of Ghana Unveils Initiatives to Boost Youth Engagement in Domestic Tourism

Accra: The Tourism Society of Ghana (TOSOGHA) has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development by introducing initiatives aimed at promoting youth-focused domestic tourism. The announcement was made by the Chief Executive Director of TOSOGHA, who highlighted the organization’s collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) as a cornerstone of these efforts. With a membership exceeding 80,000, the Society is actively working to engage young people in appreciating and preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage.

According to Ghana News Agency, this commitment was further emphasized during a courtesy call by Mr. Amartey on Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, in Accra. During the meeting, Mr. Amartey unveiled four flagship initiatives: the National Tourism Quiz, National Youth Campaign, Youth in Tourism Festival, and Youth Sports Festival. These programs are designed to deepen cultural appreciation and strengthen national identity among students.

In addition to these initiatives, TOSOGHA has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GES. This agreement aims to institutionalize tourism clubs in schools and ensure cultural representation on education boards. Mr. Amartey also advocated for improved access to cultural and heritage sites for students, including sites in restricted or security zones.

Madam Gomashie expressed her support for these proposals, noting that such visits could inspire the next generation of innovators. She underscored the importance of patriotism, cultural pride, and youth empowerment through storytelling and education. She encouraged young people to become ambassadors of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to using tourism and the creative arts as tools for national development.
