Tourism Minister Urges Investment in Ghana’s Tourist Sites

Wli: Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has called on investors and well-meaning Ghanaians to partner with the Ministry in developing tourist sites across the country. She emphasized that this would help boost tourism, enhance local economies, and increase national revenue.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Gomashie made these remarks during her first fact-finding tour of tourist destinations in the Volta Region upon her assumption of office. Speaking in the Hohoe Municipality, she stressed the importance of harnessing Ghana’s natural and cultural assets for sustainable tourism. The Minister outlined the need for collaboration between families, local Assemblies, and the Ministry, noting that while most tourist attractions were community or privately owned, their development required joint efforts.

Madam Gomashie identified infrastructural gaps, such as the lack of restrooms along tourist trails, and called for urgent improvements to enhance visitor experience. She expressed optimism that with better branding, packaging, and investment, Ghana’s tourism sector could experience significant growth, especially during peak seasons.

The Minister encouraged the private sector to invest in eco-friendly accommodations and services suitable for all categories of visitors. She also addressed land ownership concerns, assuring that the Ministry would consult its legal team to navigate these issues in accordance with the law.

As part of her tour, Madam Gomashie visited several sites, including the Centre for National Culture, Regional Museum, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, and Wli Agumatsa Waterfalls. Her visit underscored the Ministry’s commitment to revitalizing the tourism sector and ensuring that Ghana’s cultural and natural heritage becomes a pillar of economic development.
