Teso North Sub County to Receive Two Additional Divisions, Says Government

Teso North: The government has announced the creation of two new divisions in Teso North Sub County, expanding the total number of divisions to six. The announcement was made on April 24, 2025, by the Area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Solomon Kitahi during his first public baraza, a meeting held to understand the needs of local residents since his posting a year ago.

According to Kenya News Agency, the DCC revealed that the newly created divisions are Malaba North and Angurai South. This development is seen as a significant step towards achieving the autonomy of a second sub-county, a long-held aspiration of the local residents. The existing divisions in Teso North include Changara, Angurai, Amagoro, and Kamolo.

In addition to the creation of new divisions, the DCC announced the appointment of a new chief for Amagoro Location following the passing of Daniel Otebang’or. Joel Omachar, who has been the acting chief, will be succeeded, and the position of assistant chief for Amagoro Sub Location will soon be advertised.

Kennedy Epalat, a former senior journalist with Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, praised Justice Emeritus Mathew Anyara Emukule for his landmark ruling that benefited retired teachers. Epalat also urged security agencies to collaborate with boda boda riders to tackle insecurity issues, emphasizing the need for honesty in identifying suspicious activities and individuals.

Local opinion leader Simon Oruchum highlighted the lack of national government job opportunities for over 400 households in Teso North as a major challenge facing the youth. He advocated for the establishment of an Alupe University Constituent College and a branch of Chamasiri Technical Training College in Amagoro.

Malaba Officer Commanding Station Joyce Shiyonga stressed her commitment to addressing defilement and rape cases without negotiation, while Amagoro business lady Susan Okiring raised concerns about the lack of public amenities such as notice boards and lighting in key areas.

The launch of the Amagoro Sub Location Welfare was also announced by the DCC, with residents required to pay a registration fee and monthly contributions. Women Representative Mary Okedi highlighted the welfare’s potential to support the community, while youth representative Samson Enarach called for measures to combat substance abuse among the youth.
