Swedru Regent Admonishes BECE Candidates to Avoid Examination Malpractices

Agona Swedru: The Regent of Agona Swedru, Nana Kweku Esieni V, has cautioned candidates of the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to resist smuggling foreign materials into examination halls to avert arrests and the potential cancellation of examination papers. He emphasized that the students have received adequate preparation ahead of the examination, which commences on Wednesday, June 11, and should rely on what they have been taught to achieve successful results.

According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Esieni issued this warning during a visit by the education committee members of the Swedruman Council of Chiefs to various schools in Agona Swedru. The visit aimed to encourage and inspire students as they prepare for their BECE. The committee members toured both public and private schools registered to participate in the examinations within the Agona West Municipality.

The Regent stressed the importance of revising all subject notes to help candidates perform well and obtain good aggregates. He assured students that the Swedruman Council of Chiefs supports them and will provide financial assistance to those who pass with a single-digit aggregate, enabling them to continue their education.

Nana Esieni urged the candidates to remain calm and adhere to the examination rules, avoiding any dishonest practices. He also mentioned that the Council plans to honor three students who achieved single-digit scores in last year’s BECE during this year’s Home Coming celebration of chiefs and people of Agona Swedru, scheduled for the second week of August, as a way to motivate others.

A total of 2,993 candidates from 70 public and private schools, including 1,146 girls, have been registered to write the 2025 BECE in the Municipality. Mr. Patrick King Lumumba Lekey, the Public Relations Officer of the Agona West Municipal Education Directorate, noted that 606 of these candidates are from private schools. Mr. Lekey also urged candidates to avoid engaging in any examination malpractices to stay out of trouble.
