Ouagadougou: SN SOSUCO is actively preparing for the 2025-2026 sugar harvest as the company strives to expand its cultivated areas and enhance its irrigation system. The Director General, Djakaridja Hema Ouattara, recently conducted a field visit on September 18, 2025, along with his team, to assess the progress toward these goals.
According to Burkina Information Agency, SN SOSUCO currently operates on 10,000 hectares, with 7,000 hectares deemed usable and 4,000 hectares developed and irrigated. At present, 3,600 hectares are actively in use, a reduction attributed to outdated irrigation equipment. The Director General emphasized the importance of sugarcane field success for sugar production and highlighted the recovery of previously infected plots and those affected by accidental fires.
Mr. Hema expressed gratitude to the Burkina Faso government for acquiring the company and improving conditions for employees. He called upon the workforce to maintain their efforts to ensure SN SOSUCO can meet the needs of the nation’s present and future generations. He acknowledged past challenges in meeting national sugar demand but voiced optimism for increased yields in the upcoming season.
Director of Culture and Mechanization, Parfait Traore, noted substantial improvements in their irrigation system and praised the mobilization of teams for field maintenance during the inter-season. He appreciated the Director General’s visit, which he believed boosted morale and motivation among the workers in his department.
