Qatar Charity Commissions Mechanised Water System for Adidokpui Community

Agortime-Ziope: Qatar Charity Foundation, a Qatar-based non-governmental organization, has commissioned a mechanised borehole for the Adidokpui community in the Agortime-Ziope District. This initiative was led by Madam Aku Sika Kpene, a businesswoman and former Deputy Volta Regional Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to address the severe water crisis in the area.

According to Ghana News Agency, the commissioning ceremony held on Sunday follows a report published in August 2024 that highlighted the dire water shortage in Adidokpui. The report indicated that women and children in the community had to walk nearly nine miles to obtain water from unsafe sources, exposing them to health risks and affecting their education and livelihoods.

Madam Kpene emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental human right and a necessity for health and development. She expressed her pride in responding to the community’s call for help and highlighted the global water crisis, citing UNICEF and WHO data indicating that over 2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water.

As a proud native of Agortime-Ziope, Madam Kpene is committed to the community’s development. She views the borehole project as a significant milestone and plans to introduce more initiatives, including schools, health facilities, and economic programs, to enhance the community’s prosperity.

She thanked the Ghana News Agency for bringing attention to the issue and expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity Foundation for their prompt intervention. Since opening their office in Accra in 2016, the organization has implemented numerous projects across the country, including water infrastructure improvements and other community development initiatives.

Madam Kpene lauded the NGO’s focus on water projects in the Agortime-Ziope area, describing the new borehole as a testament to the power of partnerships in driving sustainable development. Mr. Daniel Agbesi Latsu, a former Assemblyman and GNA Stringer, was acknowledged for his role in highlighting the community’s water needs, which resulted in the charity’s involvement.

Mr. Latsu, who has previously advocated for water systems in nearby communities, announced plans for similar projects in additional areas this year. His efforts aim to leave a lasting legacy of improved access to clean water.

Mr. Alfred Klu Odikro, District Chief Executive of Agortime-Ziope, praised Qatar Charity Foundation and the GNA for their contributions, noting that community involvement is crucial for progress. The ceremony saw deep appreciation from traditional leaders and community members, who credited the media for facilitating this transformation.

The event was attended by traditional authorities, NDC Women’s Wing members, community executives, and residents, all expressing gratitude for the meaningful change brought about by the project.
