Oti Region: The Oti Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Hudu Haruna, has called on Muslims to demonstrate love and compassion towards the poor and needy. Eid-al-Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant events on the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in obedience to Allah’s command. The festival is marked by special prayers and the ritual sacrifice of animals, symbolizing devotion and sharing.
According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Haruna emphasized the importance of generosity during the celebration. He appealed to wealthy Muslims to extend a helping hand to those who were less fortunate so that everyone could partake in the joy and blessings of the occasion. ‘Eid-al-Adha is not just about offering sacrifices. It represents love, joy, compassion, peace, and forgiveness,’ he said.
‘Let us reach out to the poor, the orphans, widows, the aged, and other vulnerable individuals. Put smiles on their faces and make them feel part of this holy celebration,’ he added. Alhaji Haruna also took the opportunity to advise the youth in Zongo communities to refrain from consuming hard drugs such as tramadol, ‘red’ (a local alcoholic beverage), and marijuana.
‘Islam prohibits the intentional consumption of substances that alter the mind. I urge the youth to avoid tramadol, red, weed, and other harmful drugs-they are not in line with Islamic teachings,’ he cautioned.
