Sunyani: The Northern Development Forum (NDF) has raised concerns about the resurgence of violence in Bawku, located in the Upper West Region. The forum highlighted the needless deaths of civilians due to ongoing conflicts in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the NDF, a non-partisan group advocating for peace and development in Ghana’s northern regions, issued a statement through its chair, Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd). The statement lamented the suffering endured by the people of Bawku over the past four years and noted the escalating acts of provocation and impunity fueling the violence.
The statement criticized the diversion of resources from development projects to security and mediation efforts, expressing dismay at the government’s apparent lack of a comprehensive strategy to address the situation. The NDF urged the government to take decisive action to restore peace in Bawku.
The forum called on the people of Northern Ghana to avoid resorting to violence over ethnic, traditional, and cultura
l differences. It stressed the importance of unity in fostering peace and development, warning that continued conflicts would drain resources and hinder progress in the region.
Highlighting the challenges of poverty and illiteracy faced by Northern Ghanaians, the NDF encouraged a celebration of cultural and historical diversity as a means of promoting mutual respect and cooperation. The statement concluded with a call for peace, urging individuals to set aside weapons and work together for the betterment of their communities and future generations.
