London: Former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, who initially governed Nigeria as a military ruler before transitioning into a democratically elected leader, passed away on Sunday at the age of 82, as confirmed by an aide.
According to Nam News Network, Muhammadu Buhari led Nigeria with a firm approach during his tenure as a military leader in the 1980s and later embraced democratic principles, serving two terms from 2015 to 2023. His family announced his passing in a London clinic, as stated by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s former spokesman, in a social media post.
Buhari’s leadership was marked by challenges, as his administration faced persistent issues such as corruption and insecurity. Despite his efforts, Nigeria, a major oil producer, continued to struggle with economic difficulties.
