NCCE Educates Chirano Senior High School on Environmental Practices

Bibiani Anhwaiso Bekwai: The Bibiani Anhwaiso Bekwai Municipal NCCE has engaged students of Chirano Senior High School on good environmental practices and proper plastic waste management. The education was aimed at empowering the students to understand the need to end plastic pollution in the country.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Fredrick Osei Agyeman, a resource person, emphasized that plastic pollution poses a severe threat to the ecosystem. Toxic chemicals from plastics could cause health issues, including cancer and hormonal disruptions. Additionally, more plastic production contributes to climate change through greenhouse gas emissions.

He noted that the fight against plastic pollution requires an end to single-use plastics while improving waste management and promoting sustainable alternatives. The government, industries, and individuals must collaborate to enforce policies, innovate eco-friendly materials, and raise awareness to ensure a cleaner environment, protect biodiversity, and secure a healthier future for generations to come.

Mr. Agyeman encouraged the students to use silver spoons instead of plastic ones, which are often disposed of carelessly and are costly to remove from the environment. He added that the funds the government allocates for plastic waste management could instead be used to provide facilities for the school, such as libraries and computer and science laboratories.
