Ga North: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Ga North has urged mothers to disregard myths surrounding vaccination and ensure their children receive immunisations against preventable diseases. The Commission emphasised the importance of vaccination as a key strategy in protecting children from childhood illnesses.

According to Ghana News Agency, the call was made during a community outreach organised by the NCCE in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to commemorate the 2025 African Vaccination Week (AVW) and Child Health Promotion Week (CHPW). Mr. Mawuli Agbenu, Greater Accra Regional Director of the NCCE, encouraged mothers to actively participate in immunisation efforts. He stressed the importance of completing all necessary vaccinations for their children’s future growth.

Mr. Agbenu referred to a 2024 survey that highlighted a decline in immunisation rates across several districts in the Greater Accra Region. This decline was linked to vaccine hesitancy, limited awareness
, low appreciation of vaccination benefits, and logistical challenges. The survey also noted shortages of Yellow Fever, Rota, Penta, and PCV vaccines, which affected access to essential immunisation and child health services.

With vaccine supplies now restored, Mr. Agbenu underscored the need to enhance public awareness and urged communities to make use of the available services. He called on mothers to ensure their children are fully vaccinated to prevent serious health issues.

Madam Rose Elorm Klutse-Adelayita, Director of NCCE, Ga North, reiterated that vaccination services are free and accessible to everyone. She appealed to opinion leaders and traditional authorities in Ga North to support ongoing awareness campaigns and encourage parents to immunise their children. She also pointed out key access points for vaccination and urged residents to fully utilise the services offered.
